It is the policy of the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) to preserve and, where practical, enhance the environment. TxDOT includes environmental considerations in its vision, mission, and goals. Increasing regulatory requirements, greater public awareness, and greater demands from policy makers are reasons to address the impact of TxDOT projects on the environment.
TxDOT is committed to protecting, preserving, and enhancing the environment where feasible; however, TxDOT is required by various laws and regulations to follow specific environmental procedures. There are severe consequences for not following these procedures, including project delays, stops, fines, criminal liability and a bad public image. By using proper environmental planning, TxDOT is able to meet the increasing environmental requirements and concerns, and save time and money by avoiding unnecessary delays.
