Section 2: Objectives
A Pavement Forensics Team has been established to provide technical assistance to the districts and divisions to determine the causes of, and recommend solutions to, premature pavement failures or chronic pavement distresses. The Pavement Forensic Team’s involvement in pavement projects is strictly by request. The team will act as a consultant to the districts and divisions. Each FR&R will contain findings and recommendations. The findings section of the FR&R will identify elements causing premature failure. The recommendations section of the FR&R will identify recommendations for corrections necessary to rehabilitate the prematurely failing pavement segments and to improve processes and procedures to insure repeated failures are avoided and eliminated.
The Pavement Forensics Team’s objectives are to:
- enhance the district/division’s problem solving capabilities
- identify, document, and communicate causes of premature pavement failures so that they may be prevented in the future
- provide remedial solutions for premature pavement failures or chronic pavement distresses.
The team represents a step forward in the implementation of pavement management concepts and practices within the department.
